Teeth!

Emily is getting her first tooth (#O - lower left front)! I noticed it on Sunday just breaking through. I know she's over 1 y.o. but that's how we roll in my family! She should be walking soon...

John's parents through him an amazing birthday party this weekend. All of the family was there including my parents, sister and the girls. The food was so good and the house was immaculate - thank you so much for all of it! John felt VERY special!

Here is Madeline going down the zip line that John's dad make for the kids. (yes, he MADE it!) Doesn't it look fun! I wish I was little so I could try it.

Here is Madeline, Bailey (niece from John's side), Emily, Brenna (a twin cousin from John's side), Ashley (sister in law), and Ellen (Jennifer's oldest girl). There were 4 more kids there but it's a little hard to get everyone to sit for a picture!

More Baptism Pics

"Am I next?"

Andrew takes his job very seriously!

Peace!

Wow! I've seen better family portraits! We look like we're in pain - I'm going to blame it on the sun in our eyes!

Emily Baptism - Feb 14th

Isn't she precious in her Baptism dress! It was a GREAT day! Most all of the family came to be a part of it and it was so special!

SLEEP!

For the first time in 1 week, Emily did not wake up @ 4am and scream until 6am. Yes, I fed her. Yes I rocked her. Yes, I gave her a pacifier. She wanted to be held and sleep in my arms. Not going to happen and 4 in the morning. So after praying hard @ 1 this morning after she ate (yes, she still eats throughout the night, but water doesn't work and I need some sleep!), I didn't wake up again until Madeline woke up at 6am. (normal time) What a blessing! Hopefully this will continue!

Chucky Cheese

Jennifer and I took her 2 boys and my 2 girls to Chucky Cheese a few months ago. They had such a good time!

Here's Andrew pushing Ben. Such a helper!
Aunt Jennifer and Emily. I have to document when she holds her because with all of her kids, it's hard for her to have a moment with her little neice!

Andrew on a car.
Ben with a hammer.
Madeline entranced with Chucky. (That's the mouse's name, right?) She loved watching him sing and dance.

My Cute Girls!

Can you tell I uploaded pictures recently? I'm working backwards through them so eventually you'll see Christmas - yes a little late but still very cute!

I was taking pictures of Emily doing tummy time (over a month ago. Ha Ha!) and Madeline wanted to join in the fun. I think she had just had a bath which is why she doesn't have clothes on.Look at that concentration!
Poor Riley! but she loves the attention and Madeline!
She was being a sweet mommy.
Cute, right! The cold spell didn't bother her while she was cooking steaks with Daddy.

Rodeo 2010

I wanted to end this day on a lighter note. :)
We had the best 2.5 hours at the rodeo a few weeks ago. We got a few looks with all of the kids but they were great!
Here we are getting ready for the fun. Note: take 2 strollers next time. Believe it or not, no kid wanted to be the one walking. Good thing John has strong arms!Riding the "golf carts" to the arena. The driver was very nervous about them falling out. It was no problem. The kids sat very still and thought it was neat!
Madeline and her hero.
Andrew having fun with Emily while I took the girls potty. Isn't he sweet!?!

All of the kids rode the ponies. They LOVED it! I know they don't look thrilled but they really were!
We had breakfast tacos, funnel cake, and went to the petting zoo. and then they were tired. Maybe we can stay longer next year! Thanks for coming, Andrew and Ellen!

Raisins & Dental Decay

It has been brought to my attention that there is some confusion about what causes cavities. This is a blog geared towards kids' cavities.
I believe good oral hygiene is very important, however, even with good oral hygiene (brushing twice a day and flossing somewhat regularly - let's be honest, flossing every day is asking a lot), cavities still occur. I see it every day.
Some people's teeth are more susceptible than others (genetics) but DIET is the biggest factor.
Here are some pictures of different levels of decay. Front teeth are thin and cavities are easy to see but back teeth are thicker and you can't see in between them. Unless these cavities are large (usually requiring kiddie crowns to fix them) you can only see the cavities with radiographs (x-rays) which must be taken at the dentist office. Here is a really bad case. I really don't see much of this here in TW, but I have treated several of these cases in NY and had to remove all of their teeth. Very sad. This was probably caused from sleeping with the bottle and the parents had a lot of decay. You can pass the decay causing bacteria to your children when you blow on their food, share spoons, ect....

Eating STICKY, SUGARY foods such as taffy, DRIED FRUIT, jellybeans, fruit roll ups (you get the idea) cause cavities. Frequent carb snacking, too. It sticks to your teeth for long periods of time, the bacteria process it, and acid is released - cavity begins. If this process happens often enough, you get a hole - cavity.
Now, dried fruit (raisins) are healthy and make great snacks. So if you want to eat them, do it as a trail mix with nuts. Nuts help remove the sticky fruit and increase saliva. This decreases the chance of causing cavities and gives some protien which will help keep your kids full for longer.
Soda. Instead of writing a book about this, take an egg shell and put it in a baggie with Coke. Leave it for a week and see what's left. Now imagine that's your teeth.

I hope this has been informative and clears up any confusion.

Hi!

So I need to upload some pictures but I'm going to give a quick update with what's been going on around here.

1. working 3 days a week - awesome! love the schedule!
2. Emily was baptized on Valentine's Day. Very special - Most all of her family came to support her and the kids had a great time. Em looked fantastic in her gown! (pics to follow.....)
3. Madeline has stopped dance class due to tantrums for 3 months over putting on her dance clothes. (She seemed to like it when she was there. That's why we kept going) She LOVES going to the gym and playing in the kids area.
4. I go to the gym 2 times a week. Theoretically. So far I've only made it once a week but I always plan on twice so it counts.:) Madeline goes with me and has become my little buddy.
5. Emily and Madeline both go to bed @ 7ish and wake up @ 6. Yes, Emily still eats throughout the night but I've got my evenings back so I can get more done. and keep up with Lost. John and I LOVE that show.
6. Emily weights just under 12 lbs 14 oz and is in the 25% for everything. Some of you may think that's small but for someone who NEVER made it on the curve, I think she's big. It's not "oh, she's in the 25th percentile?" its "All right! She's in the 25th percentile!"
7. The green rooms in our house (they were green when we bought it) are now lovely, soothing beiges of different tones. We really like it. Madeline says "it looks beautiful, Mommy!"

I will try to get some pictures up soon!

A Couple of Pics

Things have been busy around here! Madeline is working on potty training. Going well as long as we ask her approx every hour if she needs to go potty. On occasion she'll tell us, but not the norm. Emily's almost 11 pounds and has slept through the night a few times so we're on the right track. Going back to work has been really smooth especially since I'm only back 3 days a week!
We're going to have some work done on our floors starting tomorrow so we're moving in with my parents tomorrow night. I think it'll be a lot of fun, I don't see them often enough!

Ok, here are some pictures! This is Madeline (on the left) doing her Christmas dance. She looks so big!

Here's a Christmas picture of my girls - I even have them matching! Thanks for helping me take them, Jennifer!
